Ruth Bowdler 8D participated in the Strongest Link competition at her local public library.
The Strongest Link Reading programme is held annually by Public Libraries throughout Ekurhuleni in the month of April. School children who read voraciously compete against each other in their age groups. Anyone from Grade 5 to Grade 11 can join their local library. You are given a card to record the number of books you have read. When your card shows you have read 50 books by the end of the year, you are automatically entered into the Reading Competition. You receive 3 books from the adjudicators on which you have to answer questions. A winner is then selected.
Winners are given cash prizes, medals and certificates. Ruth did exceptionally well in her age group and was placed 3rd.
She was awarded a medal and a certificate. Miss Gonçalves challenged the girls to sign up at their local libraries, so that they too have a chance of being the next Strongest Link.
